Monday Lunch: May 20, 2019

Lunch Program: LTC (R) Alex Vega '84, CEO Vega Security, "National Security; International Threats; U.S. Vigilance"

alex-j.-vega-ivAlex Vega is a National Security Consultant to the U.S. Intelligence (IC) and Counterintelligence (CI) communities. His combined 35 years of distinguished government service include high-level diplomatic assignments serving throughout Russia, the Far East, Central Asia and the countries of Europe and the former Soviet Union.

A retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, he served on active duty as both a Combat Arms and as a Russian Foreign Area officer. Highlights of his assignments included serving as an Investigator with the Joint U.S. Russia Commission on POW/MIA, as a U.S. Army Attaché at U.S. Embassy Moscow, and as an Inspection Team Chief leading intrusive inspections of Russian military units under the Conventional Forces of Europe Treaty, the Vienna Document 1999 Agreement, and Article 2 and 4 of the Dayton Accords in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

For the last decade, Alex has led multiple teams of IC & CI community members in conducting classified intelligence threat focused seminars, which are conducted at the Joint Counterintelligence Training Activity at the Defense Intelligence Agency in Quantico, Virginia. His seminars are exclusively focused on the top adversarial threat countries of Russia, Iran, China, and North Korea. His teams have literally prepared tens of thousands of IC and CI community personnel whose focus is identifying, mitigating and defeating these adversarial threats here in the United States, internationally, and in the originating countries.

Simultaneous to all of this, Alex was also invited to serve as a visiting graduate professor to the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M. The majority of his graduate students are now serving throughout the IC and CI communities. Nevertheless, his proudest personal accomplishment is graduating from Texas A&M University as a member of the class of 1984, and in particular being a proud member of Company A-1 in the Corps of Cadets. Last but not least, his most infamous claim to fame is having once been the roommate and Old Lady of COL (R) Bill Hill III.
