About the Presentation
Dr. Mark J. Zoran, a distinguished leader and educator, is the inaugural dean of Texas A&M University’s College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Zoran is a professor of biology and neuroscience who has been with Texas A&M since 1991. Before being named dean, he served as the interim dean and executive associate dean in Arts and Sciences since the college’s creation in September 2022. He also held the position of executive associate dean in Texas A&M’s former College of Science since 2018 and was acting associate provost for graduate and professional studies at Texas A&M from 2017 to 2018.
MONDAY LUNCH
Dr. Zoran is a native of DePue, Illinois, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Augustana College. He earned a master’s degree in biological sciences from Illinois State University in 1981 and a doctorate in zoology/neurobiology from Iowa State University in 1987. He completed postdoctoral research at Iowa State before joining the Department of Biology at Texas A&M. Dr. Zoran is also an affiliated faculty member with Texas A&M’s Center for Biological Clocks Research and the Texas A&M Institute for Neuroscience. His research focuses on developmental neurobiology.

In addition to being a well-accomplished scientist, Dr. Zoran also has a love for creative writing. One could say he is a product of arts and sciences, making him a great first dean for the College of Arts and Sciences.
