Rep. Ryan Guillen '00 | Monday Lunch
Texas State Representative

About the Speaker
One of the youngest ever elected to the Texas Legislature at age 24, Ryan Guillen is the product of a family of public school teachers, war veterans, and cattle ranchers. A sixth generation South Texan, he grew up working at the family's feed store and as a ranch hand on the family farm, later receiving a degree in Agriculture from Texas A&M University, and then serving as a local high school Ag teacher before pursuing public office.
Monday Lunch
Having been named “Legislator of the Year,” “Best of the House,” or “Legislative Champion” over a half dozen times just this year alone by numerous statewide organizations, no other member has passed more legislation out of the House in a single session in history. Capitol Inside called him a “House Bill Machine,” and “A One-Person Assembly Line for legislation.” Recently appointed as both Chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security & Public Safety, and as Chair of the House Select Committee on Community Safety, Guillen has a long history of leadership roles in the Texas Legislature, including having served in leadership positions in all four Speaker Administrations that he has served under, and having been Vice-Chair of the powerful Appropriations Committee by age 29. This session, he was the only member to Chair two separate committees.
Monday Lunch
Guillen is the first Republican to win Duval and Starr Counties in over 120 years, and the first to win Jim Hogg County in history, having won them in the ‘22 General Election by an overwhelming 30 points. Known for his hard work and relentless efforts for South Texas families, Guillen hosts his marquee seasonal Dairy Queen Listening Tour, and the only mock Student Legislative Session, and the largest Legislative Internship Program of any member of the Texas Legislature. He and his wife, Dalinda, have two daughters, 14 year-old Cinco Demi, and 11 year-old Viva Bonita
