About the Speaker

Richard Oliver is the Communications Manager for the Convention & Sports Facilities Department of the City of San Antonio, including the Alamodome and Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Before joining the city in 2022, he worked in various communications roles over nine years for Visit San Antonio following a 35-year career as an award-winning multi-platform print and broadcast journalist in Bryan-College Station, Corpus Christi, New York and San Antonio. During his career, Richard has covered Super Bowls, The Masters, Daytona 500, NFL Pro Bowl, NBA Finals and the World Series, and followed assignments around the world.

Lunch

For 12 years, he was part of the San Antonio Spurs’ television broadcast team on Fox Sports Southwest. Currently, Richard appears each week on the programs “Sports Weekly” on KCWX-TV and “Sports Nation Overtime” on WOAI-TV. Richard’s work has been honored by such agencies as the Associated Press, Charles H. Green Headliners Foundation and Society of Professional Journalists. He is a Certified Tourism Executive and was selected by Golf San Antonio for its 2014 Joe Conrad Lifetime Achievement Award and as an honorary captain for the 2019 Rudy’s I-35 Cup competition. In 2015, Richard was honored as a Texas A&M University Fish Camp namesake. From 2019-21, he served as an Honorary Commander for the 502d Air Base Wing at Joint Base-San Antonio.

Lunch

Richard is a board member of Friends of The Battalion and a past representative of the Texas A&M Student Media Board of Directors. He was selected in the media category for induction into the Texas Boxing Hall of Fame in 2022 and Corpus Christi Boxing Hall of Fame in 2023. Richard, a 1981 graduate of Texas A&M, and Laura, his wife of 41 years, have three children and six grandchildren.
