Join us Every Monday at Aggie Park for a time of Camaraderie
About the Speaker
Porter Garner '79, President and CEO of The Association of Former Students
We will be joined by Porter Garner, Class of ’79, President and CEO of The Association of Former Students. Porter graduated with his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Texas A&M in 1979. He joined The Association as the field director in 1981 traveling untold miles working with Aggies all over the world. In 2000, he became The Association’s 7th chief executive officer.
With a commitment to brand the organization for the first time in its history and a focus on promoting the Aggie Network, Porter has broadened the reach and relevance of The Association of Former Students. He led The Association’s first-ever branding strategy, creating a unified and recognizable identity that has significantly enhanced and elevated the organization’s visibility and deepened its engagement with Aggies around the world. The Association has raised over $572 million and quadrupled the value of Association assets under his leadership – resulting in successes like Aggie Ring Day and Aggie Park. Porter has inspired innovation and led initiatives to achieve The Association’s vision to become the premier alumni organization.
Porter’s leadership and service extends across campus and into the local community and is reflected within each of the Aggies in his family. He was raised by the Class of ’45 and knows most of us in this club. Porter and his wife, Lisa, Class of ’91, are proud parents to Claire Sheffield, Class of ’21, Callie, Class of ’23 and Porter the fourth, Class of ’26.
After nearly half a century of unwavering service to the worldwide Aggie Network, Porter recently announced that he will retire at the end of this year. For the past 27 years, he has faithfully led The Association of Former Students as President and CEO, guiding the organization with vision, integrity and a deep commitment to Texas A&M’s enduring traditions. His retirement marks the close of an extraordinary chapter defined by steady leadership, meaningful growth and a lifelong dedication to serving Texas A&M and Texas Aggies.
